We were called to a local corrugated paper mill recently to look at the holes that had been worn through the sides of their roof mounted cyclone. This piece of equipment was old and was losing vacuum pressure due to the thin and holed structure.
Our solution was to adhere a plate over the holed areas utilizing a process called “cold plate bonding”. By using this technique over welding you lose any further damage to the structure from introducing heat from welding.
Although this facility didn’t choose to do it, we would have liked to have coated the interior of the cyclone to prevent any further degradation of the substrate metal. By coating and protecting the original equipment we can extend the life by decades.
A few other paper mills have used either Belzona 1321 (Ceramic S-Metal) with an aluminum oxide grit incorporated or Belzona 1811 (Ceramic Carbide) to coat the interiors of these cyclones to stop the abrasive erosion.
Whether you have erosion issues, corrosion issues or both, Belzona has the products and services available to mitigate and solve these problems.
Let us know how we can help you repair, improve and protect your component equipment.
